Although this seems confusing, it follows general mathematical logic when you take a closer look.

Lets take a mathematical model of a scorpion, and give it a value of 8, referring to its number of legs.

Now, say we chop two legs off, as google suggested, we modify this mathematical model by subtracting 2 from its value.

Thus you are left with the following equation, which should resolve your concerns;

8 - 2 = 6

I came up with a formula, which calculates "The scorpion effect", it has been scientifically proven by my cat that it's true.\
x(3x - 24)
we don't know x, but we know the legs, so we can say:
x(3x - 24) = 8
3x2 - 24x = 8
x2 - 8x = 8
x2 - 8x - 8 = 0
a = 1, b = -8, c = -8
D = (-8)2 - 4 * 1 * -8 = 96
x1 = (8 + √96) / 2 * 1 = ~8.9
x2 = (8 - √96) / 2 * 1 = ~0.9

This proves that a scorpion has either 8.9 or 0.9 legs.
