Static IP

Static IP

Postby creativemagic » 18 Mar 2012, 00:40

I've been trying to get a static IP and I thought I had one, but now I'm confused.
This is what I've done so far:
1. Went into my router's settings and disabled DHCP-Server
2. I went on every device that I had on my home network and gave it a static ip.
This is how I did that:
1. Adapter setttings
2. Properties
3. "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" clicked properties
4. Then filled out the info, ( clicked "Use the following IP address:" and "Use the following DNS server addresses") Went into the Command port and did "ip config /all"
3. I thought I was finished, but I've noticed that my ip is still changing...Is it possible that my router doesn't support a static ip? It doesn't have many settings: dynamic DNS, NAT&Portforward, PPPoE Pass-Through, DHCP, and some other stuff that isn't related to network settings (security stuff)
What did I do wrong?

Generally it is not very hard to GET a static ip for your own computer however it is hard to be ISSUED a static ip from your wireless provider. I would recommend looking at my video tutorial here, and ask if you have more questions.

If your ip is changing then your router won't provide or issue you a static ip.

Hmmm....Well, It seems I would have to have a little chat with my ISP, but I'm not able to do that. In my router's settings it gives me a option for a dynamic DNS, does this have anything to do with it? Could making a account at no-ip.com fix this? I don't think there are any other options left. @helloworldcool, I used that program (simple static ip) and it gave me a local static ip, kinda already what I did, but thanks, now I have a program that will do it for me ;)

That's the point. A local static ip which that is very fine. Good job.

What to Consider
1) No-ip.com won't fix it. It's best if you use that for a beta server instead.
2) If you wanted to change your dynamic ip there is an option...but not all ISP providers will enable that option.
3) I know in Netgear they have this...

Check this: http://interface.netgear-forum.com/WGR614v9/

Then click Basic Settings on the left panel.
Scroll down and find Internet Ip Address

If you have any problems please reply. Look below at some screens.

Confused... :?
I don't have a Netgear router...If this helps I have a "speedport W 502V" (It's some stranded one my isp gave me.) router, In the manual it supposedly tell's you how to get a static ip, but it just explains the windows thing, doesn't say anything about changing any settings on it.

Do u have a static internet ip or a dynamiche one?
On your router just turn on DHCP.

I have no idea, all I know is that it changes every 24 hrs. I turned DHCP on.
