I have noticed this with 2 different types of IRC, geekshed and quakenet, that of your server is in the lava survival gamemode, you cannot hear anyone from the IRC that is in the lava map. I then asked someone to come to a freebuild map, and I could hear them there.

/map chat ,allows messages outside a map to come in.
YOU HAVENT SEEN THE LAST OF ME ISMELLIKE
