I have yet to see an instance where the lava actually breaks through a block, instead of it just turning into coal. I have the update.

It is so with the new versions. Just make sure Lava Rage is on. You can set it in the GUI or by the command '/setlava rage'.

Or Lava Survival ll you can click the little box ^^
